RAM (Memory) Upgrades PDF Print E-mail

Do more with your computer by increasing the available memory (RAM). Every program you open on your computer consumes memory, and the more memory there is available, the better the programs will all run at the same time. Have you ever had more than 5 websites open at the same time, or perhaps checked e-mail while composing a document and researching on the web? Additionally, with Windows XP and Vista, the more memory there is the better peformance you will have in the general operating system itself, not just the programs running. We strongly recommend 1 GB of total memory for Windows XP and 2 GB of total memory for Windows Vista. For 64 bit Windows Vista 4 GB is recommended simply because of the correlation between the 64 bit computing architecture and how it references memory.

Store more with a larger or additional hard drive in your computer. Standard DVDs are anywhere between 4.7 and 8.5 GB in size, and if you have a large a large video or music collection you know just how quickly free space begins to get gobbled up. With your base operating system and programs taking anywhere from 10-30GB of space, it's best to aim for something 250GB or better on a desktop or 120GB or better on a laptop. Many new computer systems support Redundant Array of Independent Disks (RAID) where you can tie multiple drives together for speed and/or redundancy (fault tolerance).
